Deric Learman, Intern
Hello, my name is Deric Learman, and I am a counseling intern. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Central Michigan University, with plans to graduate in August 2026.
I am a client-centered counselor, and my goal in therapy is to meet clients where they are. I have experience working with couples, children, adolescents, and adults of all ages. My approach is integrated, meaning I use one or more techniques tailored to help clients struggling with life transitions, aging, depression, anxiety (including panic and OCD), or trauma. I have training in Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), the Gottman Method of Couples Therapy, and various aspects of play therapy.
Counseling is my second career, as I have been working in higher education (teaching and research) since 2011. My focus in higher education is on environmental science, and to support this career, I earned a B.S. in geology from CMU and a Ph.D. in geoscience from Virginia Tech.
