Deric Learman, Intern
Hello, my name is Deric Learman, and I am a counselor-in-training. I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Central Michigan University, with plans to graduate in August 2026. Counseling is a second career for me, as I have spent the past 14 years working (teaching and research) in higher education.
My goal in counseling is to meet my clients where they are when they arrive. I am a client-centered counselor, and our work begins with conversation. My counseling approach is integrated, meaning I will use one or more techniques tailored collaboratively to each client. This could include therapies like cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), solution-focused brief therapy (SFBT), dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) skills, and existential therapy.
